Sara Kontar

Sara Kontar is a Syrian artist born in 1996 in Misrata, Libya. She lives and works in Paris, France. Through a rich artistic practice utilizing photography and video, Kontar illustrates experiences of exile, focusing on human emotions, identity, body language, movement, and testimonies. She is a recipient of the Arab Documentary Photography Program (AFAC) and an alumna of the Magnum Foundation, VII Foundation, Prince Claus Fund, and Women Photograph. In 2024, she received the Inge Morath Award from Magnum for her project Therefore, I Cut. Her work has been exhibited internationally at prominent institutions including Centre Pompidou, Palais de Tokyo, Sharjah Art Foundation, and the A. M. Qattan Foundation.
