Anthony Downey

Anthony Downey is Professor of Visual Culture at Birmingham City University. Recent and forthcoming publications include Nida Sinnokrot: Palestine Is Not a Garden (Sternberg Press/MIT Press, 2026), Trevor Paglen: Adversarially Evolved Hallucinations (Sternberg Press, 2024), Neocolonial Visions: Algorithmic Violence and Unmanned Aerial Systems (Aksioma, 2023), and Decolonizing Vision: Artificial Intelligence, Algorithmic Anxieties & the Future of Warfare (forthcoming, MIT Press, 2027). Downey was the Cultural Lead and a Co-Investigator on Disability Under Siege, a £2.2m AHRC-funded project addressing educational provision for people with disabilities in occupied Palestine (Gaza and the West Bank), Lebanon and Jordan (2021-2025). He is Chair of the Editorial Board at Ibraaz Publishing, where he was Editor-in-Chief from 2011–18.
